Anthony Melhem, chief executive officer (CEO) of Sierra Leone internet service provider (ISP) Sierra Wifi, has described a report by the Satellite newspaper that the company does not have an ISP licence and is not listed by the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) as “baseless and unfounded”.
Melhem said the company obtained a valid official licence from the regulatory body in July last year, and showed journalists a copy.
He said it took his company two years to obtain the licence from NATCOM, and slammed the newspaper for publishing what he described has a reckless article.
“How can we operate in this country without a license from the relevant authorities? There is no iota of truth in the article apart from the spelling of our name. The article is reckless,” he said.
“We are here to complement the government’s effort in improving information and communication technology in Sierra Leone.”
