Kenyan ICT cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi has appointed six members to Kenya ICT Authority, allowing the process of recruiting a chief executive officer (CEO) to begin.
Timothy Waema, Esther Njeri Kibere, Bertha Joseph Dena, Elijah Omwenga, David Mugo and Ugas Sheikh Mohamed will each serve a term of three years, according to a notice in the Kenya Gazette.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and Technology appoints — Timothy M. Waema (Prof), Esther Njeri Kibere (Ms), Bertha Joseph Dena (Ms), Elijah Omwenga (Prof), David Mugo, Ugas Sheikh Mohamed, to be members of the Board of the Information and Communications Technology, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 17th January, 2014,” read the Gazette Notice.
The Kenya ICT Authority was formed in August, merging the Kenya ICT Board, Directorate of eGovernment and Government Information Technology Services (GITS) in a move to consolidate all IT functions under the Ministry of ICT following a directive issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta in June calling for the consolidation of all state ICT agencies into one ICT body.
Until now Victor Kyalo has been acting CEO, but now a board has been appointed the recruitment process can begin. Edwin Yinda was appointed as the authority’s chairman in December by Kenyatta.
