South Africa’s First National Bank (FNB) has announced it will no longer support Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) on its online banking platform.
FNB said it is their policy to support the three latest IE browsers, which include versions 8, 9 and 10. “IE 7 limits the use of modern development tools and restricts access to more advanced browser-based security features,” said the bank in a statement.
Those who bank with FNB and are still using IE 7 will have to upgrade to one of the latest versions before June 9 this year, after which the IE 7 browser will be blocked and users will be unable to access the system.
Users accessing the site or Internet in general with the Microsoft XP operating system, of which IE 7 is a component of, will only be able to upgrade to IE 8. Furthermore the Microsoft lifecycle for Windows XP end on April 8 next year.
