Vodafone Ghana market share up to 14%

Latest figures released by Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) have revealed Vodafone now has 14 per cent market share.

According to the NCA, the network’s subscribers increased from 1.298 million to 1.357 million.

Globacom also recorded an increase in its number of subscribers, rising from 269,615 to 279,054, which mean that the network now controls 2.86 per cent of the total market share.

However, MTN, Airtel, Tigo and Expresso recorded decreases in the number of

subscribers. MTN’s subscriber base decreased from 4,762,030 at the end of October to

4,624,583 at the end of November 2013. The loss resulted in the marginal reduction in the network’s market share from 48.30 per cent to 47.37 percent.

Airtel’s subscriber base also decreased from 1,924,049 to 1,910,479, representing 19.57 per cent of the total market share.

Tigo was also affected, its subscriber based reduced from 1,560,570 to 1,551,115,

representing 15.89 per cent of the total market share. Expresso’s market also reduced to 0.42 per cent from 0.46 per cent, with the network having 41,205 subscribers at the end of the month under review.

On the overall, NCA said the sector recorded a one per cent decrease at the end of

November, from a collective total subscription of 9,860,019 at the end of October to 9,763,581 in November. This affected the penetration rate, which was reduced from 37.9 per cent to 37.4 per cent.
