Intel unveiled a 64-bit Intel Atom processor under the LTE advanced communications platform during a press conference at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, targeting smartphones and tablets.
The company anticipates the processor will be adapted with smartphone producers.
It is 64-bit, which allows it to run at 2.13 GHz, thereby allowing for faster processing.
Intel also disclosed agreements with Asus, Lenovo and Foxconn to develop mobile devices that run on Intel chips.
Speaking during the launch Hermann Eul, vice president and general manager of Intel’s mobile communications group, said: “With this, we prepare the world for an even faster, even richer application processor experience. That’s what we mean when we talk about ‘look inside’.”
“The continued growth of the mobile ecosystem depends on solving tough computing challenges–unlocking data’s potential while securely and reliably connecting billions of devices with leading edge computing and communications technologies,” said Renee James, Intel Corporation president.
