The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has ruled any subscriber who applies for mobile number portability (MNP) will be required to swap their SIM card to a new operator.
This is according to the draft of the Mobile Number Portability Regulations 2013, which is open for public responses until March 4.
The commission said a porting process would be started by a customer physically visiting a recipient operator to request the transfer of a number. Only real-time porting of numbers will be allowed under the agreed MNP code of conduct, while operators are required to inform the customer that once set in motion the process cannot be cancelled.
