Ericsson partners Save the Children for communications provision

Swedish telecommunications firm Ericsson has partnered Save the Children to provide communication solutions and support services during disaster situations.

“Under the agreement, Ericsson’s global initiative Ericsson Response will provide communications technology and use its comprehensive ICT capabilities to contribute to a better, faster response when disaster strikes,” the company said in a statement.

Ericsson Response, founded in 2000, was initiated when Ericsson employees expressed a desire to contribute skills in disaster relief situations. Since then, hundreds of employees from all over the world have volunteered, been trained and deployed to various disaster relief operations.

The initial agreement has been signed for three years, after which point it can be renewed on a yearly basis.

“As a stand-by partner, Ericsson Response is ready to assign staff and technical solutions as an emergency response or for non-emergency field operations. The organisations will also cooperate in workshops and provide training for staff and volunteers,” Ericsson said.
