ICT4D event underway in Nairobi

Nairobi is currently hosting the sixth annual four-day ICT for Development (ICT4D) conference hosted by international humanitarian agency Catholic Relief Services (CRS), showcasing how ICT can improve development work.

The conference – themed “Building Resilience Through Innovation” – is in Kenya for the second time, and looks to showcase successful ways in which ICT is being used to improve relief and development work and empower impoverished communities in the areas of agriculture, health, emergency response and preparedness, micro-finance peace building, water and sanitation, partner capacity building, and education.

Carol Bothwell, chief information officer for CRS, said: “CRS believes the smart use of Information and communication technology is critical for achieving our goal of continuously improving programs that respond to emergencies, strengthen the health, well-being and livelihoods of families, and nurture peaceful and just societies.”

The event – taking place at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi – is attended by over 450 guests from 188 organisations from 55 countries, bringing together high-level government representatives, multilateral institutions, international and local relief and development organisations, universities and technology firms.
