Egyptians first Africans to get Facebook Messenger data discount

Facebook is offering discounted or free data to users of its Messenger application, but Egyptians are the only Africans able to take advantage of the deal.

The popular social media website has partnered with 18 mobile operators across 14 countries to provide the service, though it has not yet been revealed what percentage the discount will be.

Facebook said: “Messaging on Facebook lets people connect with friends and contacts on the go, regardless of what device they are using.

“Three out of every four people on Facebook send a message on the platform each month, making messaging one of the most popular activities on Facebook.”

Subscribers widely use Facebook for its convenience in providing instant communication with those they want to keep in touch with, regardless of the device that they use.

Etisalat in Egypt are among the 18 operators taking part in the promotion which has also been launched in countries including Portugal, Bulgaria, Malaysia and Brazil.

The network also prides itself in its accessibility on more than 6,000 mobile phones within Facebook Messenger for iOS and Android.
