The Nigerian government has said it will not be implementing a recommendation it should amalgamate the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) under a unified Communications Regulatory Authority of Nigeria.
The rejection is contained in a White Paper on the Stephen Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.
In the document, the government said it will not be implementing some of the committee’s recommendations while accepting the merger some of the nation’s agencies, such as the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) into the Federal Civil Aviation Authority (FCAA).
It rejected the call to merge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, (ICPC), the Code of Conduct Bureau and the Code of Conduct.
The recommendation the government-owned national television station the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and Voice of Nigeria be merged into one body, to be known as Federal Corporation Broadcasting of Nigeria (FCBN), was also rejected.
The government however agreed the NTA should be fully commercialised by 2015.
