SA government, MTN open computer centre for blind

South Africa’s Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities and mobile operator MTN have opened an accessible computer centre at the Bartimea School for the Blind and Deaf, outside of Bloemfontein.

The accessible computer centre is part of a larger operation to establish similar IT facilities in the country.

“We are committed to the development of education initiatives for equal education opportunities for all. MTN SA Foundation identified the needs and challenges of Bartimea School for the Blind and Deaf through our partnership with the Ministry of Women, Children and People with Disabilities,” said Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi, MTN SA Foundation general manager (GM).

“Working with such dedicated partners, the company realised that we needed to help the school provide learners with the quality tools they need in order to be equipped for tertiary education; and to assist them to develop their potential.”
