South African Internet service provider MWEB has released prices for its VDSL services, bringing customers 20Mbps and 40Mbps speeds, on the same day Telkom revealed their prices.
HumanIPO reported earlier today Telkom had revealed pricing for its new higher speed services, but MWEB have responded by focusing specifically on the “requirements of large and small businesses”.
Derek Hershaw, Chief Executive of MWEB ISP, said: “VDSL is like ADSL on steroids – only faster. It’s up to four times faster than the fastest ADSL currently available.”
The packages range in price from R2,299 (US$260) per month to R10,699 (US$1,210) per month depending on whether they are shaped, throttled or come with fixed IP addresses.
MWEB’s VDSL, standing for Very-High-Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line, is only currently available in a handful of areas in Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal.
The MWEB roll-out, just like its major rival’s planned roll-out, depends much on Telkom’s speed in completing their upgrades of street distribution cabinets (SDC) and multi-service access nodes (MSAN) around the country.
Hershaw added: “MWEB is following the roll-out of MSANs closely. As soon as the Telkom infrastructure upgrade is complete, we will make our VDSL products available to our customers in that area.”
