Kenya’s Citizen TV, KTN pulled from StarTimes, GOtv

Popular Kenyan television stations Citizen TV and KTN cannot currently be accessed on pay-TV services StarTimes and GOtv, with GOtv saying this is because the channels’ carriage contracts have come to an end.

Though StarTimes has yet to comment, GOtv said on its Facebook page it was renegotiating the contracts and apologised to subscribers.

“GOtv apologises for the disruption in the carriage of free to air channels, KTN and Citizen, whose carriage contracts have terminated. However, we are in the process of renewing these channel carriage contracts,” GOtv said.

“As soon as the agreements are concluded the channels will resume carriage under the previous channel numbers Citizen (channel 93) and KTN (channel 92). We regret any inconvenience to our valued GOtv subscribers.”

GOtv said the same in a message on the channels where the two stations would normally appear.

“We hope to have the two channels back as soon as possible,” the service said.

Citizen and KTN went off air in December after the Kenyan High Court ruled against them in a digital migration case, though they subsequently returned after being given leave to appeal.
