FNB enhances online banking

South Africa’s First National Bank (FNB) has launched a number of enhancements to its online banking platform in an effort to “simplify its digital channels” after a study found it was no longer the country’s favoured service.

HumanIPO reported last week FNB’s digital channels had been displaced by Capitec’s as South Africa’s favourite for online banking.

FNB has now added a host of new features in order to improve the ease of use of its online offering.

“Customers will now be able to import recipients, reactivate a blocked bank card as well as search for traffic fines using an ID number through Online Banking,” the bank said in a statement.

“We continue to strive to make our online environment as simple as possible as well as add features that will help our customers, not only with their banking, but also in their everyday activities,” said Lee-Anne van Zyl, chief executive officer (CEO) of FNB Online Banking.

The company said through anecdotal feedback it has understood one of the biggest annoyances when making use of internet banking is uploading customers receipts when changing banks. FNB has streamlined the process by allowing a customer to import receipt details.

The new features also allow an internet banking user to change his or her PIN online.

“Forgetting your bank card’s PIN or getting it wrong three times in a row can happen to anyone, in the past that would mean that customers would need to go to a branch to reset their pin, going forward it can be done immediately online,” van Zyl said.
