Kenyan enters Internet Hall of Fame

Dorcas Muthoni Ngatia, a Kenyan entrepreneur, computer scientist and chief executive of Openworld Ltd, is the latest inductee to the Internet Society’s Internet Hall of Fame, which recognises individuals who have greatly contributed to the use and growth of the internet.

Muthoni started leading e-government and business software services company Openworld, which deals in web and cloud applications in Africa such as ARIS as well as an African Union (AU) reporting application used by member states, at the age of 24.

She is also the founder of AfChix, which is a regional organisation for mentorship and capacity building for women in computing across Africa.

“I am greatly honoured with this award, I am really excited I won it. I want to thank you for supporting me and trusting my professional qualities,” she said in her acceptance speech.

“Your support means a lot to me it is a recognition of my hard work in 20 years. Today I am an entrepreneur and mentor, I believe I have followed my vocation.”

Muthoni has also been an Internet Society (ISOC) Fellow to the Internet Engineering TaskForce (IETF) and World Bank infoDev Global Forum.
