12% of smartphones on MTN Ghana network are Tecno devices – CEO

Serame Taukobong, chief executive officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, has announced that about 12 per cent of the over one million smartphones on the operator’s network are Tecno Mobile devices.

Taukobong said this in Accra while speaking at the launch of the Tecno S3M – the latest addition to Tecno Mobile’s range of smartphones.

He said the network is focused on creating more access to data services for its subscribers who could not be left out of the digital revolution taking place across the globe, with a robust telecoms infrastructure needed to support the ever-increasing demand for data.

“In pursuit of its strategic objective of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world to the customer, MTN is investing over GHS311 million (US$110.2 million) this year, in the enhancement of network infrastructure,” he said.

“As a leader in Ghana’s data market, MTN would continue to forge partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) like Tecno Mobile to develop affordable smart phones for customers with the desire to experience the digital age, but could not afford high-end devices.”

Derrick Nkrumah, Tecno Mobile’s general manager for operations, said the company is upgrading its care centres to provide after-sales support services to its customers in Ghana. He said the tech company would continue to set the pace in Ghana’s local mobile phone market.
