Vodacom launches low-cost Smart 4 mini

South Africa’s leading operator Vodacom has launched its Smart 4 mini device, the latest in the Vodafone Smart family of devices aimed at bringing mobile internet to the broadest range of customers at a low price.

The Smart 4 mini features a 4-inch touchscreen, dual core 1.3GHz processor and the latest version of the Android Jelly Bean operating system, as well as a 3.2 megapixel camera.

The device comes at a recommended retail price of ZAR899 (US$86.60), and is available for both prepaid and contract tariffs.

“[The Smart 4 mini] has been designed to give a broad range of customers access to mobile internet at an affordable price,” Vodacom said.

“Vodafone’s Smart devices enable consumers to access content and services that will save them time, money and help them manage their daily lives.”

As well as providing internet, email and social media access, the handset also features a number of Vodafone applications.

Prepaid customers purchasing the device will be given 250MB of data on activation, followed by 250MB whenever they recharge ZAR29 (US$2.80) or more for six months. Contract customers will receive an additional 100MB for 24 months.
