A public-private partnership agreement has been signed by the management of the University of Ilorin and IT firm WaveTek Nigeria for the provision of a campus-wide Wi-Fi network to further enhance academic and administrative processes in the institution.
According to university vice chancellor Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali the project is valued at NGN860 million (US$5.3 million), and will complement the current fibre optic network medium in the university.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed by Prof Ambali on behalf of the university and WaveTek Nigeria managing director Kena Span.
According to the agreement, WaveTek will provide the equipment and other forms of material inputs needed to execute the project, the tools needed for the university to monitor the services, facilities for billing and usage of the Wi-Fi services, and maintain and support the Wi-Fi Network and provide backup power facilities for its smooth running.
