With C-SAM and MasterCard’s mobile wallet, Africa expects a stir in payment services

Mobile technology firm C-SAM Friday announced a partnership with a global payments and technology company MasterCard to offer “mobile wallet” solutions in Africa, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

The two companies C-SAM says will jointly offer mobile wallet solution to mobile operators, retail banks and payment providers looking to launch a wide range of mobile contactless payment services blended with offers, coupons and rich value added services to their customers in the three regions.

The service, according to C-SAM, is also expected to solve the complexities of managing multiple mobile devices and operating systems, secure elements, and connections to multiple third party systems.

This is likely to offer mobile operators and financial institutions in-breed user experience to their customers while staying focused on relevant, customizable and profitable mobile services.

Mobile wallet solution will be based on C-SAM’s mobile Transaction platform (MTP) set for integration with Mastercard’’s pre-paid platform, Paypass wallet services and rich informational services.

Commenting on the partnership, Raj Dhamodharan, Regional Head of Mobile and Ecommerce for Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa for MasterCard said the the joint effort with C-SAM will offer telcos in the region a near-field-communication (NFC) solution.

NFC comes pre-packaged with prepaid instance issuance, TSM integration and coupon redemption at the point of sale and offers a path to a truly multichannel payment wallet through PayPass Wallet Services.

Felix Marx, CEO, C-SAM said the innovative solution would address the needs of major players across the mobile ecosystem for an integrated mobile services offering.

“The synergistic combination of MasterCard’s deep expertise in payments systems with C-SAM’s extensive experience in mobile wallet technology and deployments has resulted in a powerful and flexible solution that we believe effectively addresses the needs of major players across the mobile ecosystem for an integrated mobile services offering,” Marx noted.

The US-based C-SAM is a pioneer in secure mobile transactions technology offering a range of phone-based applications for financial and non-financial services. The company has operations in Singapore, Japan and India.

MasterCard is a global payments and technology company operating the world’s top payments processing network that connects consumers, financial institutions, merchants, governments and businesses in more than 210 nations.
