Ghana regulator bans Expresso from adding subscribers over QoS

Ghana’s National Communications Agency (NCA) has banned operator Expresso from adding new subscribers to the network over its poor quality of service (QoS).

The one month ban affects sales and marketing efforts, with the NCA saying Expresso is battling with operational challenges in the three northern regions, and the eastern and Volta regions.

The network has 154,000 subscribers, representing less than one per cent of Ghana’s 27.7 million mobile phone users. The network’s subscriber base had been on a decline for the last few months.

NCA director of consumer and corporate affairs Nana Defia Badu said: “If a network is down in an area, it doesn’t mean that only the consumers in that area are affected. It is also possible that other consumers from other parts of the country may be trying to reach those within that area that have been affected and they will not be able reach them.”
