TECNO Ghana intends to manufacture and assemble its brand of affordable smartphones for sale exclusively within the west African country.
Tecno says it will also develop local content for the smartphones.
The company said it appreciates its loyal customers who continue to use its range of handsets, and have contributed in making them popular across the country.
Putting Tecno in good stead and allowing the brand to stay ahead of the competition, Tecno said.
The country has an unemployment rate of 11 percent and Tecno’s move is welcome for its growing population.
According to the company’s media head Rev J.K Asante the move is for nation building as well as to improve the standards of living for the local youth.
Ghana has more than 21 million mobile phone users and Techno believes it is set to have an upper hand over its competitors because of its affordability and features. The phones have dual Sim card slots and according to Asante, Tecno hopes to be that preferred option for consumers.
The moves come after Tecno won last year’s ‘Mobile Phone of the Year’ at the second Ghana Telecom Awards organised conducted by Mobileworld to reward the best of the industry’s players during the last calendar year.
TECNO owns modern and highly technical mobile lines that can produce some six million units of handsets every year. Techo mobile handsets are available in the international markets for both simple designed and complex ones and have price ranges for the low- and high-income earners.
Headquartered in Hong Kong, China, Tecno Telecom Ltd has been at the forefront of Dual SIM technology.
Techno had late last year promised to start the smartphone manufacturing plant in Ghana.
