The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has announced a public hearing is to take place to hear testimony from an expert witness in its case against Screamer Telecoms over alleged radio transmission without a spectrum licence.
ICASA referred a complaint against Screamer Telecoms to the Complaints and Compliance Committee (CCC) in August 2011, alleging the company used radio equipment to send and receive radio signals without having a radio frequency spectrum licence for a period of almost four years.
ICASA alleges in this way the company contravened the Electronic Communications Act.
The case has progressed with two public hearings taking place in 2012 and 2013, however it was decided at a hearing in September 2013 the services of an expert in telecommunications would be necessary to assist the committee in understanding the technical details of the case.
The expert witness has now been recruited and is to give his evidence at the public hearing to take place on June 2 and 3 at ICASA’s head office in Sandton, Johannesburg.
