The South African Department of Communications (DoC) has said they are not bad for business because no concerns have been raised with them.
“No business people have ever raised concerns about uncertainty and business confidence,” Siyabulela Qoza, spokesman for the DoC, told TimesLive yesterday.
However, Roderick Lim Banda, committee chairman for the Cape Chamber of Commerce’s information and communication technology (ICT), said it is becoming increasingly frustrated with the DoC’s lack of delivery and governance in the department.
Qoza reportedly replied why the chamber had not raised its concerns through the appropriate channels, which they had utilised in the past.
“The department has acknowledged for a while now that, on its own, it would not be able to address all the challenges faced by the country,” said Qoza.
Qoza added Dina Pule, DoC minister, would receive input from all members of the public regarding policy proposals in the ICT sector through an ICT policy review panel, which the minister has set up.
A panel member was reportedly lobbied by the Cape Chamber of Commerce and the minister had met with the panel on Monday, according to Qoza.
Qoza is of the opinion that ICT in the country has “flourished” as a result of the DoC’s policies.
“However, the department understands that technology, environmental, industry and individual needs are a constantly changing factor in the ICT field, and as such the department is continually revising and revisiting [its] policies,” concluded Qoza.
