SA’s Steyn City announces FTTH plans

Steyn City, a mixed use estate in Johannesburg, South Africa set for launch in 2015, has revealed its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) plans, saying residents will be provided with open access and internet protocol television (IPTV) functionality.

“Future residents will benefit from the latest FTTH. Steyn City will provide the future in smart homes through an interactive IPTV middleware that opens up direct portal on homeowners’ TV sets,” Steyn City Properties said.

The IPTV functionality will provide homeowners with multimedia sharing, voice over internet protocol (VoIP) on their televisions, web browsing while watching TV, social media integration, instant message services, CCTV integration for TV set viewing and video-on-demand (VoD) services.

“All this information will be delivered on a world class, open access FTTH network, allowing residents the freedom to choose a service provider of their choice,” the company said.

Steyn City will be feature two data centres to support these services.

“Steyn City’s FTTH network will provide our residents with a true Smart City lifestyle through our fully integrated, automated and intelligent city management system,” said Giuseppe Plumari, chief executive officer (CEO) at Steyn City Properties.

“The residents will be supported via a market leading web and app based portal allowing real-time full access to city and resident information such as city notifications, golf course and recreational facility bookings, utility billing and, internet usage statistics.”
