Orange Mali has been fined US$14.23 million for illegally using mobile bandwidth for a fixed-line service, according to Choguel Maiga, managing director of the country’s regulatory body AMRTP.
Reuters reports the regulator said Orange broke telecoms rules when it used a mobile platform for its Douba fixed-line service.
Orange has denied the claim and said it will challenge the accusation contained in a May 22 letter
Sekou Drame, Orange Mali’s deputy managing director, said the company did not break any rules and the network’s Douba service is line with AMRTP regulations.
“Orange Mali would not allow itself to break the law in Mali,” he told journalists in Bamako. “The Douba service is regularly offered to clients in line with the rules that govern this sector.”
