Ghana Post launches e-payment system to cushion revenue fall

Ghana Post has launched an electronic payment system expected to make it easier for mobile phone users, financial service providers and merchants relate through a platform accessible from different mobile devices.

The new product, named “TXTNPAY”, is going to be a cost effective, timely and convenient considering it enjoys a wider network spread across the country, says Abdulai Abdual Rafiu, Managing Director of Ghana Post.

Mahama Yussif, Afric Xpress Representative adds that with the new service, members of the public can use the secure mobile based system to send money to anyone with the mobile phone. People can subscribe for free, get an e-wallet and use it for different purposes.

The service, developed in a joint effort between Ghana Post and Afric-Xpress, is set to enable clients pay for products and services including DSTV, Vodafone landline and broadband, sale of electronic credit for recharging phone accounts.

“We are delivering a wealth of new innovative products and services as a way of diversifying our operations to bring in more non-core business to improve revenue,” Rafiu adds.

Kofi Nyantakyi, Member of the Board of Directors of Ghana Post, said the new product would offer business opportunities to anyone wishing to undertake business transactions with them.

The new service is meant to counteract the recent technological innovation in the communication sector, which led to a considerable decline in Ghana Post’s revenue.
