Randfontein has fastest internet in SA – report

A report has found Randfontein to have the fastest broadband internet in South Africa, though only nine areas in the country have speeds faster than the national average.

115 countries have broadband speeds faster than South Africa’s.

Ookla’s Net Index said the national broadband speed average is 3.82 megabytes per second (mbps), while Randfontein had download speeds of 11.3mbps, followed by Bryanston, Midrand and Randburg.

Gauteng emerged as the province with the fastest broadband speeds, with only two of the fastest areas outside of the province, Secunda in Mpumalanga (5.72 Mbps) and Worcester in the Western Cape (3.84 Mbps).

Local internet users used Ookla’s website and application to test their speeds, with the company testing 1.7 million broadband users’ speed 5.05 million times
