South African police have arrested five suspects accused of launching a cyber attacks that went undetected for a number of days and led to the theft of ZAR8.7 million (US$815,000) from the Road Traffic Management Corporation, according to a report.
Times Live reports the suspects allegedly used computer software to steal the cash from the corporation’s bank account.
Investigators said the syndicate hacked into the account after key-logging hardware was installed on one of the computers used for online banking by an insider, giving them access to passwords and usernames.
The suspects then allegedly accessed the corporation’s account and transferred money to a number of other accounts across the country.
