QCell, a major GSM network company in Gambia, has launched a service called QPOWER that allows the network’s subscribers to purchase power in cash from the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC).
According to QCell’s CEO Muhammed Jah, Gambians can now buy cash power with just a click of the button.
“Today, QCell is happy to announce that you only need to carry a Qcell SIM card and you can buy NAWEC cash power through our Qcell Airtime vouchers or specially designed Qpower vouchers sold all over town,” Jah said.
According to him, the technology is an innovation that will transform the lives of NAWEC customers who will no longer need to endure long queues.
“No more should anyone have to endure the inconvenience of long queues at electricity purchasing points; no more should anyone have to travel distances to get to the purchasing points,” he said.
Apart from paying from power, he said QCell will be rewarding its subscribers that use the new service with airtime bonuses.
NAWEC’s managing director Ebrima Sanyang described the new product as a major development in NAWEC’s quest to improve customer access.
