Apple smartwatch set for production – report

A Taiwanese company will begin production of Apple’s first smartwatch in July as the tech giant tries to remain as innovative as its competition, according to a report.

Reuters reports the watch, which is currently unnamed, will be produced by Quanta Computer Inc.

The company has been focused on the production of Apple iPods and laptops and the addition of the smartwatch will represent a massive boost for Quanta.

The extent of Quanta’s involvement in production was little known until now, although rumours about the smartwatch have been circulating for a number of years.

According the Reuters sources, the watch’s face will measure 2.5 inches diagonally that will be slightly rectangular. The watch is also said to have touch capabilities and feature wireless charging.

Apple will initially ship 50 million units, according to the source, and it is currently being trialled by Quanta.

The device will only be compatible with devices running iOS and will have features are smartphone defendant and others that will run independently.
