South Africa’s second operator MTN has announced a promotion giving customers who use ZAR6 per day on voice calls or internet access an additional ZAR60 credit this week.
MTN said the promotion intends to respond to the demand for affordable communications, and sees the operator “give back” to its customers.
“MTN understands that customers want to keep in touch with family and friends. This is another exciting way we are giving back to our customers,” said Larry Annetts, chief marketing officer (CMO) at MTN South Africa.
“MTN is conscious that affordability is key to enabling access to telecommunication. As a result, through this promotion, we are giving back the equivalent of 1000 percent airtime to the customer.”
The promotion applies to prepaid and top-up MTN customers, and applies until next Monday, June 30, though MTN customers need to opt-in to benefit from the promotion by dialling *130*500#.
The free credit will be given once a day, and will be valid for that day only for on-net calls to all networks as well as for internet access.
“The depletion rate is dependent on the customer’s price plan. The ZAR60 reward is based on a minimum of ZAR6 usage, and will be given once a day. This means that if a customer’s usage is more than ZAR6 a day, then that customer will not qualify for additional FREE airtime value,” Annetts said.
