South Africa’s Cape Town city has launched a new Web portal, dubbed Cape Town Activa Web Portal, complete with online resources, tools and links for use by the business people.
The site, expected to open the city to the outside world and attract investors from all over the world, has a collection of resources suitable for anyone looking to start a business or find a job in the city.
Speaking during the launch, Alderman Belinda Walker the City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for economic, environment and spatial planning said Cape Town Activa has been established to create an enabling environment and collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders with an interest in entrepreneurship.
She added that the Cape Town Activa Web Portal seeks to help city entrepreneurs by voicing the problems they face, as well as finding the appropriate solutions.
Walker said: “Cape Town is positioning itself as an ‘opportunity city’ for entrepreneurs and we continue to work at removing barriers to entry. Cape Town Activa is one of our chief initiatives that will create the enabling environment to allow entrepreneurs to seize these opportunities.”
The site that resembles the city’s chamber of commerce and industry’s is set to help entrepreneurs stuck on where to begin, or young entrepreneurs looking for mentorship.
The founders of the portal expect it would help the more than the 3.5 million city residents launch their businesses, find jobs and connect with organisations.
South Africa has a similar business mentorship portal called South African Business Hub that provides information on business process. It also offers mentorship programmes as well as business management consultancy across the country.
