Nigeria’s largest online forum Nairaland is back online having been down since Sunday, with the website operators saying it was targeted by cyberattacks.
HumanIPO reported earlier this week Nairaland had been down since Sunday, with founder Seun Osewa saying the site may be offline longer than expected.
“Nairaland is trying to recover from an attack that led to data loss. Please bear with us,” the owners said.
Owners of similar websites used Nairaland’s downtime to attract visitors to their platform, including bestnaija.com, reviewcious.com, yarnme.com.ng and several others.
Some tech experts rightly predicted what went wrong with Nairaland.
Dan Magaji posted on HumanIPO: “From what I can tell, their database has crashed and it generally takes a long time to rebuild all the data. This is obviously a flaw in their operation and something that needs to be addressed going forward.”
HumanIPO has contacted Seun Osewa but has yet to receive a response.
