Google begins removing search results after EU court ruling

Google has begun taking action on request by users in the European Union (EU) to be “forgotten” following a May court ruling.

HumanIPO reported last month the tech giant had taken steps to comply with a court ruling that individuals could apply to have results that are “inadequate, irrelevant or no longer relevant, or excessive in relation to the purposes for which they were processed” removed from Google searches by providing a webform for EU residents to request the removal of links appearing in search results should they find them objectionable.

“This week we’re starting to take action on the removals requests that we’ve received,” a Google spokesperson said. “This is a new process for us. Each request has to be assessed individually, and we’re working as quickly as possible to get through the queue.”
