Hitachi unveils Continuous Cloud Infrastructure in Kenya

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation today unveiled its Continuous Cloud Infrastructure technology in Kenya, looking to accelerate business success in Kenya by providing more responsive IT foundations.

The company said Continuous Cloud Infrastructure promises users IT efficiency through a responsive, software-rich architecture that can react quickly to changing needs without continual redesigns and disruptions.

The Hitachi Storage Virtualisation Operating System (SVOS) and Virtual Storage Platform G1000 are new versions of the Hitachi Command Suite management platform, with the company saying they are also a significant enhancement on its Unified Compute platform.

“Our customers across industries have told us for them to keep up with the fast pace of business, they are aligning the IT and business functions more closely than ever,” said Wayne Dick, business development manager at Hitachi Data Systems for Sub-Saharan Africa.

“IT teams are looking to new infrastructure strategies to deploy more continuous, adaptable and scalable infrastructure. Businesses need solutions that don’t require constant and disruptive changed to the technology they support. And that is what we are delivering today.”

In an interview with HumanIPO, Hitachi’s chief operations officer Tony Reid said the company was targeting high-end institutions with the new product.

“We are talking about financial institutions, oil and gas companies, telcos,” he said, adding Hitachi has a range of mid-tier solutions that can cater for other kinds of clients.

Reid also said Hitachi wanted its Kenyan operations to be handled by locals, and had been training people at its office in Kenya for the last two years.

“We had had an office in Kenya to handle operations and it will take care of the rest of East Africa,” said Reid.

As far as security is concerned, Reid said Hitachi had put in place mechanisms to ensure matters pertaining to the core part of the business will be placed under private cloud, while those that are not so important will be in public cloud.
