Google Chrome overtook Internet Explore to become the world’s most popular and most used Web browser.
The latest browser ranking by StatCounter, a leading Web analytics company on the Internet today, tipped Google Chrome at 32.76 percent while Internet Explorer dipped by 31.94 percent.
This is a minimal overtake although it is the first time Chrome overtook Internet Explorer for a full week, worldwide.
StatCount.com says Internet Explorer has been having a descending graph since May last year. However, between May 13 and 20, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer were at par with Chrome overtaking IE in the preceding days.
In April this year, Firefox had a 39 percent in Africa and Chrome had 29 percent. Internet Explorer took the tail end of top browser at 25 percent. In August 2011, Firefox overtook Internet Explorer as the preferred browser in the continent. Internet Explorer had top slots in US and in Australia.
Internet Explorer has been getting very bad reviews from users worldwide. According to WorstTech, Internet Explorer has not kept the Internet standards.
“This obviously means that Microsoft wishes to force people into using their software instead of complying with set standards,” WorstTech says.
With diminishing market for Internet Explorer, the explorer is looking for ways to stay above the water. Early this May, Internet Explorer was reported to be looking to introduce an Internet explorer for Xbox 360.
Google’s Chrome has been competing for the number one slot against the likes of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and the Mozilla Firefox.
The Web browser developed by Google uses the WebKit layout engine and application framework. Google first released the browser’s beta version for Microsoft Windows on September 2, 2008, and the public stable version on December 11, 2008.
In September 2008, Google released a large portion of Chrome’s source code, including its V8 Javascript engine — as an open source project entitled Chromium. This move entitled third-party developers to study the underlying source code and help port the browser to Mac OS X and Linux.
