South Africa’s MTN Business has announced its third annual App Awards to recognise innovative app developers in the consumer and business space.
MTN is collaborating with Creative Space Media to present the awards, with the ceremony being held in Johannesburg on August 14 andsubmissions closing on July 10.
“The MTN Business App of the Year Awards celebrate local talent and promote South Africa as an innovation hub within the mobile space. We have already seen how apps have helped to empower Africans from all walks of life and connected the continent to the rest of the world,” said MTN Business enterprise marketing general manager (GM) Kevin Jacobson.
The awards aim to recognise those who are driving African innovation in the modern age, with the winner of the best app prize winning ZAR200,000 (US$19,000) to “buy media in order to promote and create awareness about themselves and their app”.
The awards are made up of categories including best enterprise iOS app, best consumer iOS app, best enterprise Android app, and best consumer Android app.
“Key criteria for judging will include whether an app is: intuitive, reflects simplicity in design, is easy to use and install, adds value, shows improved functionality and perhaps most importantly is an excellent example of truly African innovation in enterprise or to the end user,” MTN said.
Last year’s winner, Snapscan, allows users to make mobile phone-based payments and has recently partnered with Standard Bank.
