Korean electronics giant Samsung has announced the launch of the Galaxy S5 Mini, a compact version of the company’s S5 flagship smartphone.
“The Galaxy S5 mini delivers powerful performance, as well as the same dedicated fitness tools and enhanced device protection features found in the stylish Galaxy S5,” the company said.
Samsung said the release falls in line with the company’s aim of developing a wide range of devices that appeal to the tastes and styles of consumers.
“The Galaxy S5 mini allows consumers to enjoy the iconic design and essential and useful features of the Galaxy S5 through a maximized minimalism approach,” said JK Shin, chief executive officer (CEO) and head of IT and Mobile Communication at Samsung.
The device includes numerous features incorporated into the S5, including: IP67 certification, Ultra Power Saving Mode, heart rate monitor, fingerprint scanner, and the ability to connect with the latest Samsung wearables.
It comes with a 4.5” HD display, Quad Core 1.4 GHz processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB internal memory and a microSD memory slot.
Like the S5, the Mini has two cameras, an eight megapixel rear facing and a 2.1 megapixel forward facing camera.
