Jumia Nigeria is managing about 95 per cent of its operations itself, allowing it to be in full control and ensure quality of services, according to co-chief executive officer (CEO) Nicola Martin.
Unlike other e-commerce platforms that rely on logistics companies including DHL and UPS for nationwide delivery, Jumia has its own delivery officers in various cities across Nigeria.
“We are partnering with DHL and UPS to reach zones we don’t cover directly ourselves. I want to fully control the entire operation in the way that I want to address, interact with the customers; in the way we basically make the exchange of goods, also in the means of payment. Jumia was proudly the first to introduce cash-on-delivery,” Martin said.
He said the strategy is a way of ensuring customers enjoy the best service possible and of reducing the delivery time.
“We want to have the full control and make sure we provide the best experience possible,” he said. “Secondly, we found out we can be able to deliver quicker than our partners with our customers paying lowering shipping fees.”
