The Social Media Fraud Risk Conference 2013 will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, in April, to educate attendees about Fraud Landscape (FraudScape).
Endorsed by the Digital Marketing and Media Agency (DMMA), the event by Mzanzi Conferencing and Training will provide the opportunity for key stakeholders to cross network as part of the equipping focus on social media fraud risk.
From April 29-30, the Sandton Convention Centre-based conference will offer academia, governmental officials and the public the opportunity to be informed about the effective forensic investigations to counter fraud.
“There is a serious need to understand current and impending social media threats and risks within the opportunity that social media brings and how to formulate approaches and strategies that can be applied ‘as appropriate’ by the various organisations – big or small,” Mzansi Conferencing and Training said.
Jonathan le Roux, audit, forensic and risk specialist at CQS Technology holdings told HumanIPO: “The conference aims to bring the focus of social media and risks associated thereto to the ‘front and centre’ of people and businesses who dealing with socmed on a regular basis.”
Le Roux, also playing a lead role in the organisation of the conference in collaboration with Mzanzi, will be speaking at the event.
Erik Qualman, author of Socialnomics, Digital Leader and Crisis, said: “Social Media has brought a new era in mass communication and with it, created a conundrum on how to monitor and regulate its use.”
Social media and its fraud risks deserve attention, as statistics by 216 Social Media and Internet Statistics (September 2016) reveal, Mzansi believes.
Facts include that 91 per cent of adults with internet access use social media frequently, 40 per cent spend more time online socialising than in person and 24 per cent of people have missed important events due to a social media posting engagement.
Further supportive statistics are daily averages of 100,000 tweets and 684,478 content shares on Facebook.
The conference, which attracted international interest since its development around September 2012, will be taking place for the first time in Africa this year.
