The Nairobi county government has launched an online platform providing residents access to easy, fast, secure and personalised services in a bid to seal revenue collection loopholes.
The platform will allow residents to pay for services such as business permits and land rates through a variety of payment options including mobile money, credit cards or agency banking.
County customers will be able to get feedback on any information they may require through the portal, which is fused with social media and available on any internet-enabled device.
The web portal and the e-payment solution are part of the County ICT-led Transformation Programme, which started in 2013 and is aimed at improving efficiency and accountability in the collection and management of county government funds.
The e-payment solution was financed by the Nairobi City County to the tune of KSh24 million (US$275,000) while the web platform was supported by the ICT Authority through World Bank funding of KSh24.95 million (US$285,000).
“The ICT Authority is privileged to partner with the Nairobi City County on its ICT Transformation journey. We are committed to supporting county governments to meet service delivery needs through ICT,” said Victor Kyalo, ICT Authority acting chief executive officer (CEO).
Local ICT company eMomentum Interactive Systems Limited completed the site implementation and will provide managed services and maintenance support for a period of three years.
