The Rwandan government has announced it is consolidating the nation’s statistics with the commencement of online registration of newborns, deaths, marriages and divorces.
The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR)-championed pilot phase of the project officially commenced this week in Huye District, Southern Province, and will last three months.
Willy Gasafari, NISR director of census, told the New Times the online system is expected to give timely, unbiased, reliable and accurate figures, and supplement and update data from the general census conducted every decade.
“With this web-based system we shall be able to have proper records of the population that are necessary for proper planning and policy formulation,” he said.
