South Africa’s part-state owned operator Telkom has announced its annual Southern Africa Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (SATNAC) event will take place at the end of August, focusing on how universal broadband connectivity has the potential to transform lives.
Telkom said the topic for this year’s SATNAC event responds to the “epic proportions” of today’s demand for broadband, with the conference to explore how ubiquitous broadband can positively impact on people’s lives.
“As technologists we have front row seats to the digital revolution. The consumption of broadband has reached epic proportions and this appetite continues to grow. Ubiquitous broadband is necessary in ensuring that South Africa is not left wanting as the world journeys toward ‘connected everything’,” said Alphonzo Samuels, Telkom’s chief technology officer (CTO), and this year’s SATNAC chairman.
“This year SATNAC will explore the possibilities of ubiquitous broadband and its ability to transform lives for the better,” he said.
The operator also announced some of the speakers for this year’s conference, with the keynote address to be given by renowned South African rocket scientist Siyabulela Xuza.
Presentations will also be given by Sipho Maseko, Group chief executive officer (CEO) of Telkom; Philippe Keryer, chief strategy and innovation officer at Alcatel – Lucent; and Walid Wakim, principal engineer at Cisco.
The conference will run between August 31 and September 3, and will be held in Port Elizabeth.
