eTranzact drives mobile money adoption in Nigeria with new project

Mobile banking and payment service company eTranzact International Plc has said it is driving mobile money adoption in Nigeria with its PocketMoni 500 project. The company said it is investing US$350,000 in the mobile money activation project which is in partnership with a financial sector development organization EFInA.

Currently being piloted in Kano and Ogun, eTranzact said the project is in line with the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and would drive mobile money adoption by educating and signing up local merchants and consumers.

Valentine Obi, chief executive officer (CEO) of eTranzact said, “We are very happy to be announcing this project at this time. Since we began our mobile money service in Nigeria, it has been clear that significant effort had to be made by stakeholders at all levels to educate and incentivize merchants and users, and in collaboration with our partners, we will continue to push until the cashless policy goal is achieved.”

He said the collaboration with EFInA is the first of several strategic partnerships the company has planned.

“We will be launching other similar projects in other parts of Nigeria and our team of mobile money evangelists will be spreading the gospel of mobile money from state to state,” said Obi.
