MTN Business Kenya will this year partner the upcoming 44th Annual Concours d’Elegance car showcase by providing free high-speed internet access to the media center and to car enthusiasts during the event
The event will be held on 28thSeptember 2014 at Ngong Racecourse, in Nairobi.
MTN Business desire to sponsor the classic event, Mr. Omariba said, was driven by demand for data (social media uploads) and the growing usage of internet amongst the urban population
“This is our third year to partner with CBA in the Kenya’s most prestigious motorshow, CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance. Many of the spectators have always liked to share – a moment of the event and MTN Business will be providing free internet for them to exchange real time updates. We expect around 15,000 spectators to attend and we want them to experience our fast internet services,” said Tom Omariba MTN Business Managing Director.
Concours d’Elegance is acclaimed as the classiest and most prestigious spectator event in Kenya’s motorsports calendar. This annual event attracts over 15,000 spectators for the motor beauty pageant and fun filled family day. The event center-piece is the judging of classic and vintage cars and motorcycles, with competitors from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa and overseas.
The number of Internet subscribers in Kenya grew by 13 percent in the second quarter of the 2013/2014 financial year to stand at 13.1 million subscribers up from 11.9 million in the previous quarter according to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
The CA Quarterly Sector Statistics Report says that mobile subscriptions remained the greatest contributor of Internet data subscriptions accounting for 99 percent of total subscriptions.
The estimated number of Internet users rose by 11 percent to reach 21.2 million up from 19.1 million estimated during the previous quarter. The report indicates that Internet penetration increased to 52.3 percent by the end of the quarter.
The event gives the Concours competitors the opportunity to discuss their magnificent machines with the motoring enthusiasts who will throng the Nairobi Racecourse on Concours day. In addition, the entrants will have their classic and vintage cars and motorcycles assessed by highly experienced judges.
