Zuku to upgrade services by injecting US$4.5 million

East African Zuku has embarked on an expansion project by injecting KSh391 million (US$4.5 million) and adding 17 channels including two HD channels to their bouquets.

The move is meant to improve their service and attract customers in a bid to chew up more market share.

Wananchi Group chief executive officer Richard Bell said the upgrade will give them more capacity which means they can host more channels.

“The main upgrade at our transmission centre is already complete, what is remaining is to redirect our customers’ satellite dishes,” he said.

The company also reiterated they have no intention to increase the subscriber fee with this new offering.

The new channels unveiled include Swahili Movies, Zuku Sports HD, One Music and CCTV News.

As the country prepares for the digital migration, competition in the payTV sector has seen companies fighting to bring the best deals.

DStv, one of the major payTV channels, recently announced an increase in their packages citing issues with inflation.

Zuku has also asked the Communication Commission of Kenya to arbitrate the distribution of monopoly content held by DStv, especially the English Premier League that is widely watched in Kenya.
