Country’s first ever phone-based share-trading platform launched in Kenya

AIB Capital, a Kenya-based stock broking firm, has launched the country’s first ever interactive phone-based share trading platform called AIB-Mobile set to enable users to buy and sell shares as well as monitor and top up their accounts — using mobile phones.

Paul Mwai, CEO AIB Capital said the platform would enable the customers to access different services including monitoring of account balances and portfolios, equity prices at the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE), buying and selling of share and news updates from Stock Market.

“Using this platform, one will exercise control over their account and can query it at any time. One is ensured of safety and secured transactions since the PIN is confidential,” Mwai said.

AIB-Mobile also eradicates theft cases, since transactions are between the client and AIB. It also eliminates handling of client’s money by third parties, a trend typical with other platforms.

The platform comes with a myriad of trading tools and information that helps the users build and manage a healthy investment portfolio more easily. Complex issues can be sorted out by a professional customer care support.

To access the service, a customer has to register with AIB-Mobile, then dial *543# on their Safaricom line, where they can follow instructions on the popup menu, and access the services in platform.

The service is currently available to Safaricom subscribers and allows them to transfer funds for share purchase using Mpesa via AIB Capital’s paybill number 548800.
