A mobile phone company in Mozambique M-Cel says it now has the lowest calling rates in the country after having reduced its tariffs drastically.
M-Cel says it aims to provide more time for conversation to its 4.7 million customers.
According to the company, it’s the preferred provider of Mozambicans as it’s more innovative and responsive to the needs and satisfaction of the market.
The operator’s price for normal calling is 3.90 Metical (US$0.14) per minute with the reduced rate going at 3 Metical (US$0.1) per minute. Billing per second for M-Cel will be at 5 US cents.
MCel’s chief commercial officer Claudio Chiche said: “M-Cel has shown once more why we continue to be the market leader, with a cut of thirty per cent in our pre-paid prices. This demonstrates that we want to stay the preferred mobile operator in Mozambique.”
The mobile penetration in Mozambique lies at 39 percent. The country has four mobile phone operators including M-Cel, Vodacom Mozambique,Movitel and Telecomunicações De Moçambique (TDM);
The M-Cel has reacted to Vodacom’s lowering of the price in late this month after Vodacom lowered its price to 7 US cents per second, although it was at a promotional level not a permanent tariff.
The price wars have become even brutal following the entry of the third mobile phone operator Movitel with a tariff of between 4 and 4.5 Meticals per minute.
Soon the industry will know who stays on top, analysts say.
