South African restaurant chain Nando’s has released a new television advertisement featuring a spoof South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) news show, which discusses a parliamentary walk-out over the speaker’s choice of food.
The ad sees SABC presenter Marietta Kruger introduce the piece of news, examining what members of parliament like to eat for lunch.
The camera then plays the “walk out” from a parliamentary session, after the speaker calls out options for lunch orders – none of which are Nando’s meals – resulting in a total evacuation of the room.
“Where are you all going?” calls the speaker above the leaving crowd, as the screen is filled with a picture of the Nando’s the Full Pack Meal and two litre coca-cola offering.
“Luckily the combination of witty voice-over and clever (but obviously not perfect) lip synching, with a serious TV news report scenario and a walk out in parliament seems to get the funny bone going in our new campaign which (significantly) broke on April 1,” said Ashley Stansfield, senior brand manager for Nando’s South Africa, according to Channel24.
