Egypt now paces up investments in gaming technology

Egypt-based Information Technology Institute (ITI) has initiated a programme that could see the country’s computer and online gaming field change for the better, it said.

The institute has since launched “Egyptian Game Jam,” which is a conference for gaming enthusiasts in Egypt and Middle East.

The ITI today said it is organizing the first Gaming Industry Summit in collaboration with the IT Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities.

The event will host members of the gaming community including faculty students, start-ups and entrepreneurs, gaming companies, developers and platform vendors, it said.

It is also expected to bring together gaming fanatics, startups and entrepreneurs to discuss the issues affecting and challenging the North African country’s gaming industry.

It has also launched a gaming competition with the theme “Egyptian History”. The competition aims to start the development of an Arabic repository of gaming applications as well as encourage the development of national capabilities and skills in the gaming industry, says Gamingegypt.com.

The essence of the competition is to start composing a wealth repository of games that dwell into the Egyptian History on the mobile apps, stores and on the desktop apps stores.

Winners of the gaming competition will be exposed to venture capitalists, mentors and leading IT businesses and companies. The Top winning ideas will be granted Summer Workshops in Game Development to aid them in implementing their games, the ITI said.

The Egyptian Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) set up the ITI in 1993 before it was later put under the Ministry of Communication and Information. Its initial aim was to nurture software developers from the country.

The ITI confirms it has trained over 1 million Egyptian youth throughout the country in the last 19 years.
